Agua Nacida: The Femininity of Water | Pacha Magazine

An introduction to Agua Nacida, a book by Hugh Arnold. Published by Pacha Magazine, September 2014

Ibiza-based photographer Hugh Arnold has realised a year-long dream with the publication of his incredible book, Agua Nacida. The island of Ibiza inspired Nacida to explore his fascination with the femininity of water, and this exquisitely photographed book captures the swimmers Nika Lauriatis and Paulina Barbasova as they express the varying cycles of womanhood.

The nurturing embrace of the womb, physical and spiritual growth, and sexual exploration are all sensuously portrayed, but this project didn't come to fruition easily. Arnold was forced to contend with icy Arctic currents, jellyfish and sharks in Australia, and raging currents in Fiji, before finding his own perfect storm in Gozo, which provided the ideal conditions for completing his 368-page magnum opus.

Agua Nacida is an intoxicating journey, one that invites the reader to delve into Arnold's hypnotic, subaquatic world.
